24/9 Lund University

I got accepted to Lund University in Sweden :) It's ranked 89 in the world and is one of the best, if not the best, physiotherapy programs in Sweden. I am so happy :)

Check this out ;)

19/9 Crème de la Créme

There is not much that beats sitting by the bar/restaurant at the end of the pier in my hometown, sunset, a drink and people waterskiing while live blues is being played in the background.

And there's just no genres that can EVER replace blues, EVER! It's a lifestyle. Dot end.

16/9 sloow

I am right not on the slowest internet EVAR! Not sure why the internet is cracking up like this.. Its normally pretty fast, owell.. Hope it will be better sooner rather than later.
Im on a friends computer right now, going to see if I can find some photos to upload from RWC... If I did you will see them underneath hehe.
I have just had break for two weeks, "mid-break", and its been... well its been fun with Coromandel and rugby etc.. Otherwise it's been kind of boring. Ive been studying a couple of days, then I kind of lost motivation (like today) and I havent done much at all really. It will only be five weeks till our finals exams, starting next week. So yeah,.. I have noticed that I always become like this before our exams. Some weeks before I start to feel anxious and just want it all to be over with. So some days I dont study at all, for some reason I really cant explain, and then others I study my ass off. Really, it's all about motivation.
After this week I will start my supertempo again :p I will start going to the gym again, I kind of lost motivation doing that as well since I did benchpress and walked out with an injured shoulder haha. Wouw, I am such a rookie. Stupid benchpress ;P I guess you learn from your mistakes.. Anyway, I am going to start jogging and doing physio exercises to basicly "pull" the AC (Acromioclavicular) joint out again.. For you who dont know which one that is, it's the shoulder joint :)
I am right now going to log on to studera.nu and apply for some swedish universities! Since I'm going home I need somewhere to continue my studies, obviously :) Who knows, if I dont end up in Sweden I just might end up somewhere else haha. You can never me too sure when it comes to me, really.. I ended up here, didnt I?
ah, I love this laptop. It's an apple (my friends), I so want to get one when I am back in Sweden... THe one I got now is an HP that continues to overheat and burns my fingers, no fun for my poor fingers.
Eden Park; New Zealand VS Tonga
Tonga just done with their haka

10/9 Rugby World Cup!

Yesterday me, Sarah and her dad went to Tonga VS New Zealand, the first rugby match of the Rugby World Cup 2011. There was a big opening ceremony, which was awesome, and the match was great! Rugby players are really hardcore, the medical team were running out on the field constantly but most of the time it was the players themselves that stood up and kept going. Ain't no wusses there ;)

New Zealand played really well and pretty much whopped Tonga, but still Tonga's supporters were awesome. I love the pacific people, they're so friendly and funny. They were still cheering even though they were losing, and in the end they got themselves a try!! (like a touchdown) and it made their day for sure :)

So overall a really nice evening with great people. I will upload a rugby clip on here and post pics soon!

And today it's supposed to be up to 19*C and sunny :) on with sunglasses, shorts & t-shirt and off to the beach to do some study. Well yeah, this will definitely be missed! But I will be back one day :)

The haka is really cool.

6/9 Musique

6/9 Close

Calvin Harris is coming to Rhytm & Vines (New Zealand's biggest music festival) and I bet it will be awesome! I really want to buy tickets.. Seriously thinking of it. I just need to rearrange some plans to make it work.. Who knows, maybe I will end up at RnV after christmas & during New Years! That would be amazing.

I might stay longer in New Zealand, a Swedish friend might come over for January (maybe February as well?!). Then I got someone to hike around North island with and some parts of South Island :)

29/8 Young blood

Okey, so after this semester I will not continue studying here in New Zealand. I will travel around New Zealand and Australia (hopefully Hawaii as well) and then go back to Sweden to figure my life out. My life is an open book right now, will be interesting to see where it takes me :)

I find it hard to find flights online.. I'll contact some travel agencies to see if they can create a cheap flight-package for me.

mmmm, summer will be amazing! and I will have my digital camera + videocamera with me the whole way!

28/8 oh yeah!

My life has taken a total turn-around. A couple of days ago I was in West-Auckland to make an interview with a person who suffered a stroke. It all went well, however I had to stress to get to my clinical placement in time. I made it in time and it was very interesting to see how the year 4 physios assessed different patients. Overall it was a great day.

Yesterday I took the ferry to Auckland city, where I haven't been since my 21st in June, and spended the evening checking out the new "pubarea" in the harbor for the world cup in rugby. I also bought a rugby ticket for the first match of RWC (rugby world cup) - Tonga vs New Zealand in Eden Park Stadium. It will be awesome to finally see a real rugby match, and especially a world cup game!

Like I said before, my life has totally flipped. I can't really tell you guys why yet, but sooner or later I will;)

'till then!

21/8 Good enough

Sun is shining & blues is pumpin' out of my laptop speakers. I went jogging in the morning down to Devonport - a seatown that reminds me of Sweden - and I am right now waiting for the buyers of my 'recently bought bike' to pick it up! Yeah thats right, I sold it! I bought it for 150 NZD and now I sold it for 155 NZD. 5 dollar profit hehe, I'm happy. You might wonder why I sold my bike? I made a bold move to buy it without trying it out first, so the bike turned out to be too small for me.

I've been filming a bit with my new videocamera and it's awesome! I'll make a video as soon as possible and post it on youtube (link it here) to show you how it looks like where I live etc.

Going to get something to eat now while waiting for the buyers to come.

Adios amigos!

21/8 amazing pics

You should all check out these photos:

They're taken by a friend of mine who I met during orientation week the first week I got here. Just New Zealand in a nutshell :)

Enjoy.

20/8 I died a little

So yesterday I went to the studentvillage to have some drinks with my friends. Richard had made jell-o shots so we all ended up taking several. I haven't partied in quite a while so I guess it was about time. I ended up whoppin Richard in FIFA. Well, even though it hurts to say this, what really happened was that I lost with 0-2 (Barcelona vs Manchester). Not one of my proudest moments hehe. Although I never play that game - so I guess I wasn't that shit. The dude who played him after lost with 0-7 so yeah, I guess I put up a fight :)

18/8 Strength

I bought this amazing book about strength training and anatomy today. It describes alot of exercises used in gym environments (weightlifting) combined with describing injuries (how to prevent an injury, etc), various stretch-exercises and, most importantly - it has awesome picture settings of the human body's anatomy!
I am really thrilled right now, I've been reading it for an hour now and I can't stop. It's as if I got a massive interest-boost to start studying some hardcore anatomy. I feel, at this very moment, extremely motivated to study and perform well on our upcoming exams. Why can't you always feel like this?

I guess that's a good sign; I've chosen the right profession :) I've injured my shoulder due to a stupid missjudgement at the gym. And now I know exactly what's wrong with me, honestly. I've had this once before after I landed upside down after a double backflip with a full twist in the first rotation (I blacked out and went out of my "position", which caused me to loose rotation and BAM! I was upside down with a fractured shoulder joint). What's "positive" is that it is a pretty common injury as a result of weightlifting. I guess alot of people, including me, is just not well enough educated before performing different gym-exercises. I have honestly learnt so much during this hour of reading, I'm so thrilled! What's "negative" about it is that it can have a longer healing process.. Which means I might just have to be a little skinny Alex for summerbreak. However, a longer healing process concerns (as of my understanding) people with inflammation in the area of injury, which I hopefully doesn't have!

On another note, I might buy tickets to Rhytm & Vines for summerbreak! Here's a trailer for this year :) Just soak in the environment. Really, awesome NZ!

Time for some sleep, good night world.

16/8 babeeh

Just found a really cute photo. Look at those little happy feets' :)

16/8 Iceage

Yesterday it snowed in Auckland. It was all very brief, just little snow flakes coming down from the sky. It was the first time it snowed in Auckland since 1970 something.. In 1930 they had actuall snow that covered the ground. So yeah, it's a pretty rare phenomenon to get snow so far up North in New Zealand. It's strong winds from Antarctica that has reached New Zealand and it's coold. Not colder than Swedish winters ofcourse, but around 10*C if not under.

Anyway, I feel as if I'm becoming more and more fit for everyday that passes. Right now I've injured my shoulder but I think I know exactly what's going on in there ;p Anyway, I'm going to the physio next week (cause I was stupid enough to cancel it for this week) to see what's up with my shoulder. I only need to pay 5 NZD as well, which is crazy cheap:) (5 x 5.7 for SEK). But yeah, I am able to run long distances with higher and higher pace. Oh yeah, I had injured my legs before when cross skiing in Sweden (didn't warm up or stretch & ended up going out for a 24 km or so long distance). I did some physio exercises and now I can run again :))

On another note.. I've bought a video camera. In fear of my parents whopping my ass reading this, I'm happy I'm on the other side of the world :) but nah, it was a cheap one, you can film HD and underwater. I figured I really needed to record my memories. I will make videos and such of my adventours. The camera cost 199 NZD ( 1134 SEK ) which is really cheap honestly.

Oh yeah, I'm gonna try to vaccum clean my computer.. But it does sound veeery risky. Last time I did that on my stationary computer back home, it died. Time to ask my brother what to do before acting on it!

Piha, what an awesome place!

14/8 don't hold back

I am in a very weird state of mind right now. It is now exactly 6 months ago since I left Sweden. I miss my parents, my grandma & my doggie. yeah, even my cats :)

I really don't have anything special to write right now, my days are filled with university & training. just bare with me, I'll have lots of adventurous stuff to talk about - starting in November :).
well, I'm going to look for another laptop (an apple).. hopefully I'll find a cheap one soonish. My current laptop is overheating and it's burning my fingers. It's been going on forever, but now I can really feel my fingers getting focked over..

Two good songs:

7/8 Upgrade

I need a new sport to keep myself busy with. I was just reading an article about how gym training is nothing compared to high-intensive training where you use several muscles during one excersize, instead of sitting still and pumping your biceps brachi. And it makes a lot of sence to be honest, when I did gymnastics I was training all my muscles. Even the smallest ones. So yeah, I need a sport where I can target more muscle groups at once and then combine it with regular gym training.

Till I find my new sport, I'll do hardcore training with high pulse on the gym. No resting, it's for puss*es :)

This swedish artist is amazing, just a bit depressing

6/8 Heart

When I was young I had a bunk bed, I cant really remember if my brother was sleeping under me or if it was my own. Anyway, I started to get ongoing nightmares about monsters chasing me. One day, as I was telling my brother about my nightmares, he said:
- That's because you're sleeping on the left side.
- What do you mean? I said.
- If you sleep on your left bodyside (on your heart) you will get nightmares, sleep on your right!

I thought about it and I had actually been sleeping on my left side, faced towards the wall, during the nights I had bad dreams. So I changed side and swooosh, My daily nightmares had stopped. Ever since then I've had a problem sleeping on my left side, it feels wrong!

Last semester I was writing an essay about a condition called benign paroxysmal positional vertigo. It is basically vertigo, a specific type of dizziness, that affects a person in a specific area of the inner-ear. It is a condition that should be fairly easy to treat; however some people may be affected worse than others - resulting in strong sensations of vertigo (dizziness), affecting their balance.
Anyway, as I was reading about the condition I found a very interesting line:
- Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) often affects people's right ear, due to the majority of people tend to sleep on their right side.

After reading that line, I started to try switching sleeping positions: such as lying on my back (which is a position I find particularly hard to fall asleep in) or even rolling over to my left side. With no success I returned to my normal position: sleeping on my right side. I just couldn't stand the feeling of my beating heart when lying on my left side. It feels as if I am about to crush it, or reducing its ability to pump blood to my body. The thought of getting vertigo at a later stage in life was less important than trying to avoid sleeping on my left side.

However, a few days ago I found myself waking up sleeping on my left side. Apparently, I had found an angle as I was sleeping that took away the nasty feeling of my beating heart. So I started to experiment once again. The next night I tried to fall asleep on my left side, and as far as I can remember - it worked!

But then, as I was sleeping on my left side, a nightmare appeared. It was a real nightmare, but it felt as if I wasn't as scared as I was supposed to be. Maybe I am more mature now and scary monsters doesn't frighten me that much anymore. Or maybe it was a warning from the "sleeping Gods", letting me know that I shall not sleep on my left side. Whatever its purpose for haunting me in my sleep, it sure had an impact on my sleeping behaviours. I haven't had a nightmare since.. well, I can't even recall for how long.. But years, years my friends! It haunted me then & it haunts me today, making sure I do not sleep on my left side.

So today I am sleeping on my right side again. Trying to do everything in my awakenen (is that even a word?) power not to fall asleep on my left side.

The purpose of this post is to touch the thought that everything, whatever its size, that has happend to us in our lifetime - forms the way we are today. Our minds and bodies are brilliant masterpieces, formed through years of evolution (or religious beliefs), which functions may not always be clear to us, but oh so fascinating.

Are you a person who's sleeping on your left side? Think about it...

4/8 Never stop dreaming

I can't wait to travel to the South Island and hike around Milford Sound. It is one of the reason I came here, to explore New Zealand's amazing nature. I don't regret coming here and it was just what I needed, to get away from the rut I was stuck in back home.

Never stop dreaming. If you can dream it, you can achieve it.
